Meet the Therapist

Nicholas Chiasson is a Delaware licensed and ASHA certified Speech Pathologist currently employed in the Appoqunimink School District, where he serves in the elementary autism program. Prior to qualifying as a Speech-Pathologist, he taught English as a Foreign Language in Russia, South Korea, and the People’s Republic of China.

Nicholas has clinical interests and particular experience with stuttering and fluency disorders, and conducted a large scale survey of adults who stutter. His other areas of focus include multi-lingualism and language disorders, and autism.

With over a decade of international experience, Nicholas is very comfortable working with children who may be exposed to multiple languages and possesses the ability to discriminate between language difference versus language disorder.

Nicholas received his BA in Russia Studies from the University of Delaware in 2007, and his MA in Communication Disorders-Speech Pathology in 2020.

He has experience working with 1st grade to adults, and with a wide variety of medical complexity, including deaf-blind individuals, those with cerebral palsy, people with autism, and other conditions and developmental disabilities.

He speaks basic Russian, and has access to in-house Mandarin Chinese translation and interpreting. He resides in Hockessin with his wife and daughter.
